Thanks for the quick fix. 

Unfortunately, the test program still instantly deadlocks on my system
(with todays classpath cvs 2005.09.29 and jamvm 1.3.2), as do the calls 
to showMessageDialog() in my real test applications.

Note that calls to showInputDialog() work reliably on my system.
Admittedly, the testcase calls show() from the main thread instead of the
Swing event handler thread, which might violate the single-thread rule. But 
I also get the deadlock when calling showMessageDialog() from event handlers.
