could you please try running the PR24651 and PR24651b testcases against
current cvs head?  I just downloaded and built cvs 2005.11.21, and 
JMenu and JPopupMenu are broken again on my system (jamvm 1.3.2, linux-x86,
ctwm). The behaviour is not deterministic - sometimes a menu works, but
most often it does not. Try the imageviewer for a larger popup-menu.

* opening a top-level menu or popup-menu works (reliably and fast)
* but it is impossible to select menu-items from the opened menu,
  also, the menu-item highlighting is disabled
* this in turn implies that nested submenus cannot be opened.
* the 'menu stays open' mode has disappeared: the menus always
  autoclose on a mouse-release
