Testing with cvs 20060921 reveals a massive painting performance
regression with my jfig graphics editor (jamvm on Linux x86;
my previous test was with 20060904, which worked much better).
For a demo, run jfig:
http://tams-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/applets/jfig/
jamvm -jar jfig3.jar
Just start the editor, then move the mouse. Note how the custom
grid-snapped cursor lags the mouse-movements by up to 10 seconds
(or more). It seems that Swing somehow generates a lot of repaints
and tediously processes them instead of collapsing repaints.
