-J-Xmx400m would be an good solution.
What ecj are you using?
Is it a script?
Can it be made to support -J?
I have ecj as just invoking "java org.eclipse.jdt.internal.compiler.batch.Main"
with the right classpath. Where java is normally a symlink to gij which doesn't
have any memory limits. But when changing that to cacao it suddenly dies as you
say.
