Thanks for looking into this problem.  The fact that jamvm runs without error
leads me to suspect that the FC6 libgcj snapshot is outdated.  Thus, I've
submitted a bug report to RedHat's Bugzilla as

However, because libgcj isn't a listed component (-- although it _is_ part of
the SRPMS distribution), I don't know if I've notified the right folks.
