Using Cygwin binary Pentium gfortran version 4.4.0 20081117 trunk version
141238 with  gfortran -c -I/usr/local/include/Netcdf  foo.f90 
get error message:
Fatal Error: Reading module netcdf at line 407 column 11: Expected left
parenthesis       make.xxx[readcmipfile.o]Error 1 
Error did not occur with version ...20080517 ...135459
