You might try installing coreutils into some place other than
/usr/local, e.g. "sh configure --prefix=/some/other/place".
However, in the past I've generally run into trouble running compilers
built for older OS versions. It's just not worth the hassle. I'd
build GCC 3.4.0 for HP-UX and use that.
