Yes, I knew, thanks :) In any case, the rest of the script won't
work in a non-SUS compliant environment, so strictly speaking this is
not a portability issue. All systems this script runs on must support
the '{N}' BRE, or it won't run properly the rest of the script
anyway. Thanks :)))

That's what I have, and it's called SUSv3 (Single Unix
Specification version 3). Didn't knew that it was the same as POSIX
