The 'ls' command has a very useful sort function 'ls --sort=version'. Recently I was needing to sort a file using that same method. It was a file of filenames. But the 'sort' command does not implement this functionality at this time. I contemplated touching the entire list to create files of those names in a temporary directory and using ls to print the list in version sorted order. It would be reall great if sort also implemented the version sort functionality. Thanks Bob
