cp's behavior with fifos is sometimes not what one might want, but it
is traditional and standardized by POSIX and the default probably
shouldn't be changed at this point. (Maybe another option could be
added, though we'd have to see the details.)
Could you suggest a specific improvement to the documentation to
clarify this issue? We prefer the output of "diff -u" against
coreutils.texi. Thanks.
