These are strange messages, since they are reporting the input to the
shell; they are not reporting the "shred" command that should have
actually have been run.  I vaguely suspect that it's a bug in the
Gentoo shell environment, not in coreutils or shred proper.

You might try the advice in Bob Proulx's message about generating and
sending more-detailed info.
