We don't have a clue what you are talking about over here on the GNU
Coreutils mailing list.  So we can't help you.

Perhaps your problem would be better reported to the Ubuntu folks?  Or
perhaps the Gnome folks because it sounds like you are using Gnome and
what you describe looks like a Gnome problem?
