Maybe following entry in the coreutils-6.9/README file is related
to the umask / chmod interaction, and maybe the "may fail" bit in there
would go away if all 'mkdir' or 'touch' in all tests are followed
by a 'chmod' that explicitly sets all bits (not just a few of them).
Greets,
Arto
from README:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Depending on the
permissions with which the working directories have been created,
using `nobody' may fail, because that user won't have the required
read and write access to the build and test directories.
