Sorry, but this is a developer tool, and it's fine
to assume shell and perl for such tools.
Not to mention the fact that maintaining what is effectively
a one-line shell script beats maintaining 100+-lines of C hands down.
I'm all for adding such small scripts to a contrib/ directory.
... just waiting for someone motivated enough to handle all of
the tedious details.
