It's not 1 meg, it's only 400k; but I take your point. And the answer
is, I haven't a clue. On my system (BSD/OS 4.0.1), building 1.11 and
1.11.1p1 with --disable-client --disable-server gives:
text data bss dec hex
332500 3348 5728 341576 53648 cvs1-11
335998 1444 5716 343158 53c76 cvs1-11-1p1
So whatever caused the large difference is specific to your platform.
1.11.1 was the first release to use automake, so I can only conclude
that the difference is due to different compilers, compile options, or
link options due to the differences between the pre-automake build rules
and the automake build rules. As you can see from my results, there
were no changes in the CVS code to account for such a drastic change.
