You feel like coding/porting it? You might try to coordinate to Alexey Mahotkin to avoid having the work done twice. He's been sending us (and I've been committing) patches from his cvs-nserver project lately, which, I believe, does something similar. I haven't asked, but he might be getting ready to send the rest of it.
