Hey all,
It sounds like Shawn and Erik would agree that MPFR or GMP arbitrary precision
support would be welcome, whereas there would be disagreement over whether to
drop long double. So, that makes the former option look better. Or at least,
let's only change long double to double after arbitrary precision is offered
first.
On the other hand, as was pointed out, an arbitrary precision option would
require a lot of work.
Perhaps, after 1.8 rolls out, we could start thinking about what v2.0 will look
like? The major version bump would be a good time to try any major refactoring
or significant new features.
IIRC around March/April 2023 will be datamash's 10th birthday. That sounds like
a good time to release 2.0. It would give us 6-12 mths after 1.8 to get all
intended improvements into a good state.
What do you reckon?
