I, too, think that this is unexpected.
Erik, thanks for your analysis, the patch and the pointers. I wanted
to add one remark in case it was useful to you. The floor() function
does what I was expecting and it is available in datamash:
$ seq -2 1 2 | datamash --full floor 1
-2 -2
-1 -1
0 0
1 1
2 2
$ seq -2 1 2 | datamash --full bin:1 1
-2 -3
-1 -2
0 0
1 1
2 2
