I asked my fingers (which apparently have had advanced had microcode
burned into their ligaments for the last 45 years) if redirecting to less was
a normal thing to do. Doing just that in an ed session, my fingers said yes,
totally fine. If my fingers had gotten 'burnt' doing that at any time, they
likely would have reprogrammed themselves to not do that.
I examined an 'strace -o st.1 -f -tt -T -s128 -y ed somefile' output and saw
that:
1) less did a good job of setting/resetting terminal settings - good
2) I actually had to type 'less', not my usual shell alias of 'more' for 'less
- Good - don't change that
3) 'ed' did more rt_sig*() and prlimit*() system calls than last I recalled -
good - whatever.
