Details:
Since 0.19.8, gettext supports user provided directories for looking for
`.its` files by setting `GETTEXTDATADIRS` or `XDG_DATA_DIRS` environment
variables.[0]
However, even if those variables are set, if there is an `its` file in the
host system, it would take preference over the passed directories.
It would be nice to priorize the `its` files present in the directories
provided by those environment variables, because usually any modifications to
be tested will be made in the local `its` files.
