But the line "tcl: tcl9.0b2" allowed me to reproduce the two test failures.

This one is a bug in Tcl. I've reported it at
https://core.tcl-lang.org/tcl/tktview/5fca83d78c
Let's hope that they fix it before Tcl 9.0.

Thanks for this testing! It's good to shake out bugs when the relevant software
(Tcl in this case) is still at the beta stage.
