linuxthreads + system( "ls" ) call ; problem

Hi,

When I add to linuxthreads example ex1.c a statement 

  system( "ls" );

before the pthread_create's, then the example hangs after printing 
the aaa's. Don get the bbbb's. Attached is my ex1.c. Could anyone 
tell me where to look, mail, otherwise?
