I realize this is a bug forum, but it is the only forum I found for glibc.
Please redirect me if I have posted this version/install question to the
wrong mail list.
I have a problem (described below) which at first glance doesn't appear to
have anything to do with glibc, but I am concerned at this time about
understanding my glibc scenario on my Red Hat Linux 5.2 (Intel CPU and
Apache 1.3.4 web server) host. Do I really have a glibc install on my host?
This is the only info I can find:
# find / -name glib* -print
/usr/bin/glibcbug
/usr/doc/glibc-2.0.7
# ls -las /usr/bin/glibcbug
7 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6742 Oct 13 1998
/usr/bin/glibcbug*
# cd /usr/doc/glibc-2.0.7
/usr/doc/glibc-2.0.7# ls -las

There is Sun documentation at:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/install-linux-sdk.html#install-pkg
that says:
=====
Note: It can happen that your installation may fail with a message such as
"glibc >= 2.1.2-11 is needed by jre-1.3" even though glibc 2.1.2 (or
greater) is on your system. This can happen when your glibc was not
installed as part of an rpm package and is therefore not on the rpm file
list. In that case, the J2SE rpm installation package won't recognize that
glibc is installed. To force the J2SE installation to proceed without a
dependency check, use the --nodeps option:
rpm -iv --nodeps j2sdk-1_3_0_02-linux.rpm
If you have previously installed an earier beta or rc release, you may need
to use the --force option. Doing so will install the SDK, replacing files as
necessary.
=====
I have the same install problem regardless of which install method I use:
# ./j2sdk-1_3_0_02-linux.bin
# ./j2sdk-1_3_0_02-linux-rpm.bin
In both cases, the binary runs, shows the license which I agree to, then it
provides what appear to be successful progress messages, but no output
whatsoever shows up anywhere on the host. There are supposed to be output
files in the current directory. I am doing this as root in both cases.
Do you agree to the above license terms? [yes or no] yes Unpacking...

Done.
The Sun note about needing the correct version of glibc is actually not
applicable to my situation because I can't get the .bin files to generate
any output at all. I can't proceed to the point at which I can run the rpm
install with the potential glibc error after the bin finishes.
However, I am getting no info from the Sun forums and I decided to
investigate my glibc situation on my host.
Please advise regarding my glibc setup.
Thanks in advance,
