Port glibc to FreeBSD

We are evaluating the use of glibc to get some native Unicode support (like wstrcmp() et.al.) under FreeBSD 3.4 and FreeBSD 4.2. I might be interested in working on the port of glibc to FreeBSD, but I'd like to have an estimate of the time required before I commit to anything.

I've worked on code for debuggers, compilers, and linkers in the past 20 years, both in C and in assembly (x86). I would certainly not consider myself an expert in *all* of these areas, but I'm reasonably knowledgeable. About how many hours/days/weeks of effort is involved in a port to an x86 system?

Thanks.
