problem updating to glibc2.2.3

I've been trying to update my Redhat6.0 system to use glibc2.2.3. I'm using
kernel 2.4.10. When running make install i got the following:-
test ! -x /usr/src/glibc-2.2.3/BUILD/elf/ldconfig // LC_ALL=C LANGUAGE=C \
/usr/src/glibc-2.2.3/BUILD/elf/ldconfig \
/lib /usr/lib
cc="gcc" /usr/bin/perl scripts/test-installation.pl
/usr/src/glibc-2.2.3/BUILD/usr/lib/libnss-compat.so : undefined reference
to -niserr2nss_tab
/usr/src/glibc-2.2.3/BUILD/usr/libnss_compat.so:undefined reference
to -niserr2nss_count.
collect 2: ld returned 1 exit status.
Can anyone help me as to what the problem may be as i'm totally out of my
depth here.
