odd make check' failure on PPC

glibc-2.3's make check gets this on my system after a successful build:

I configured with:
../glibc-2.3/configure --enable-kernel=2.4.10 --enable-add-ons
- --disable-profile --prefix=/usr

gcc is:

The system is a dual G4, with 1.2G of RAM, kernel headers are 2.4.19
