Hi all,

I did an upgrade of glibc 2.2.5 by compiling and installing the glibc
2.3.1 by myself. No errors appeared and everthing seemed to be ok during
these steps.

I got the Suse 8.1 dist, that provides glibc 2.2.5, GNU make 3.79.1, GCC
3.2, ...

I did following steps:
  tar -xzf ./glibc-linuxthreads-2.3.1.tar.gz --directory ./glibc-2.3.1

  mkdir ./glibc-build

  cd ../glibc-build

  ../glibc-2.3.1/configure --prefix=/usr --enable-add-ons

  make

  make install

Now, if I enter rpm, the terminal says:

  address@hidden:~> rpm
Speicherzugriffsfehler (EN trans: memory access error)

According the installation instructions I may also reconfigure the GCC with
`-W1,--dynamic-linker=/lib/ld-linux.so.2'.I
haven'd done this step, since I don't have the sources of GCC and I
don't understand what I have to do really!? Does this missing step
impact the rpm?

I'd be very pleased, if somebody could assist me.

Thanks a lot
kuno
