make check -- string test error

Hello,

Im am in the process of upgrading to glibc 2.3.2.
Upgraded to gcc 3.2

My script is:
../glibc-2.3.2/configure --enable-add-ons --prefix=/usr && \
make && make check && make install

My installation fails in make check:
string/tester.out  error 1
string test error 2

The contents of tester.out:
stpcpy flunked test 1
1 errors

I have done lot of searching on the net and cannot find much info on any
of make check errors.  If anyone has any pointers I would appreciate
feedback.
