undefined reference to address@hidden'??

I'm trying to build glibc-2.2.93 and install it in a nonstandard location for
development and testing purposes.  I'm using gcc-3.2.2 and running on
linux-2.4.19 (RH 7.3).

Anyway, it all seems to build and install in my alternative location, but when
I try to link against it, I get:

    /home/rutt/tmp/glibc/usr/lib/libpthread.so: undefined reference to 
address@hidden'
    collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

The presence of the "@" in the undefined symbol seems odd.
