My thanks goes out to Paul Jarc for the tip, and I have moved on to the next step!  Here's where I'm at now:

My configure command:
address@hidden glibc-build]$ ../glibc-2.3.3/configure --enable-add-ons --enable-add- --prefix=/usr/local/glibc-2.3.3

While running 'make':

Where do I get 'linux/compiler.h'?
