  Our shop has several Sparc Solaris 2.5.1-2.7 machines.  Ssh was compiled
  on all of them and works fine on every machine except the one
  described above (uname -a).  Gmp also compiles fine and checks out ok on
  the rest of those machines.  I have tried coping binaries, libraries and
  config files from the working machines to the problem machine to no
  avail.  I compared files and configurations between the problem machine
  and the working machines and could not find any differences, or any reason
  this problem happens only on one machine.  

There are almost certainly hardware problems with that one machine.
