return value

Hello,
   I am writing an application which uses mpz_t.
Firstly, I get an error when I write a function which return's mpz_t.Is this 
why all mpz function return void, instead of ROP ?
Making the return value void, solves this compilation problem however.
Secondly  can ROP, be the same as OP (OP1 or OP2) ? I have assumed that it is 
possible, but please confirm.
