we plan to release 6 shortly which is based on a different code base
entirely.
Hey great! Will this new release be based on Fruit somehow (I heard
rumors about this)?
Meanwhile until this new version materializes it might be useful to
direct people
also to this version of GnuChess 5.07:
http://alpha.uhasselt.be/Research/Algebra/Toga/gnuchess-release/
It fixes the known bugs in GnuChess, has new features (e.g. UCI support
and Polyglot book support)
and is also stronger. E.g. at the CCRL it has rating 2682. See
http://computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/4040/cgi/engine_details.cgi?print=Details&each_game=1&eng=GNU%20Chess%205.07.153b%2064-bit

Michel
