I would add that unless you're seriously considering replacing narrowing with my first-principles scheme (doubtful given how many hours you've invested in narrowing), this is all an academic exercise in oneupsmanship, which mind you, I am definitely game for.
My sole aim here is to improve Emacs, which is why I'm interested in all good ideas. If it turned out that your scheme gives better results in some cases, I don't see why it couldn't be included in Emacs. And if (but that seems less likely) it turned out that your scheme gives better results in all cases, I don't see why it wouldn't replace what is on master.
If that suggests I believe I dealt with long lines better than you, you'd be correct.
From what I see, you are a competent programmer. I find it regrettablethat you turn this (and other discussions) into an ego quarrel. As I already said, your contributions and ideas are welcome.
