Maybe try upgrading to macOS 14.5 to see if the problem goes away?
Upgraded to 14.5 now (apparently the upgrades were being blocked by a vpn being always on) - but the problem remains the same.
Not sure what is the difference between our machines - but mine is an M3 Pro, FWIW.
