Follow-up Comment #6:

I discovered that makeinfo can generate docbook xml files, so I've changed it
to use that instead.  Current makeinfo versions however are buggy and the xml
can't be loaded by yelp.  Fortunately I've managed to post-process using sed
to work around the bugs that are most obvious.
