Umlauts can be used, but you have to set your locale to match the encoding in
which they are written.
For example, if you want to load a *.sav file in which umlauts have been
encoded in iso-8859-1, then you need to first set your locale to (say)
de_DE.ISO-8859-1
In version 0.7.x the encodings are automatically converted, so things are a bit
easier.

does umlaut characters (???????) not work in psppire 0.6.1?
If I use them they are just disappearing. If I load *.sav file they are
replaced by "?".
Is this a bug or are umlauts not available in ppsppire 0.6.1, or can you
give clue how to
solve this problem.
