Thank you very much for your efforts John, I have seen much yours work around 
pspp.

I saw some annoying regressions (but not severe). Would you prefer that the 
report as I find them or after the changes that you are making?

For example look at the following (0.9.0-ga232eb):
In value labels activated, select some variables that contain labels (select 
only). Begins to appear the following warning: "Data is not valid as format F: 
Field contents are not numeric", The strange thing is that I did not make any 
change, just select the fields and as a result get an output full of warnings.

Yeah, sorry.  My initial attempt was somewhat naive.

I think I have fixed it now.  See how you go.
