tar for largefile on sun solaris 5.6

Hi.

I had to use your version of tar command because I have file of 17gb 
size. The prgram run fine but it sent me next message:

/usr/local/alpha/bin/tar: off_t value 17179885568 is too large to fit 
in a 33-bit field

Is this an error?

tar version is:

GNU `tar' 1.12.lfs.3

running on:

SunOS beta 5.6 Generic_105181-23 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-Enterprise
