I have configured binutils as follows:
configure -v --disable-multilib --target=mingw32 \
--prefix=/usr/local/cross-tools --with-gnu-ld \
--with-gnu-as --enable-threads --disable-nls
I am using a host of i686-pc-linux-gnu.
I have used this version to make my mingw32 cross
compiler. The compiler works and generates executable for
windows.
As I tried to strip the unneded symbols from the generated
libraries, I got the following error, as I tried to strip libgcc.a and
libstdc++.a.2.10.0. With all other libraries there are no problems.
It was possible to strip only the debug information.
I could als use the --strip-all option without errors.
I have attached new.o (its from libgcc.a). It does the same error,
if you strip the unneeded symbols. Call strip 2 TIMES!
I have then tried to strip all, but I got the error message.
I tried to do objdump, but this failed with the same error message.
If I do strip-all I got no message from objdump.
Here is the error message:
BFD: BFD internal error, aborting at
/opt/mingw/gcc/source/binutils-2.11/bfd/coffcode.h line 883 in
styp_to_sec_flags
BFD: Please report this bug.
Attached you will find a tarball including the new.o before strip and after.
Regards,
Reinhard
