abbreviated files (filena~1.pl)

Hello,

I'm trying to use tar.exe  v1.12 on an NT machine and am running into
problems.  This probably fits under the category of asking a stupid
questions, but anyway....  I specifically downloaded "tar-1.12.msdos.exe."
And I need to tar-up files with relatively long filenames.  The .tar file is
ending up with DOS abbreviated files (filena~1.pl), and I need the full
filenames.  I looked through all the documentation and bug reports that I
could find, but could not find a reference to this.  Should I try to compile
the 1.13 version?

Any help is much appreciated!
