Tar: list and extract do not function on my computers.

FYI and to find an explanation or solution.

 

Dear Sir, Madam,

   I am having difficulty getting 'TAR' to work.  Trying to list or extract results in the program hanging.  I have tried the following versions/forms on Win98 and WinME machines:

• tar (GNU tar) 1.12   115KB Cygwin
• tar (GNU tar) 1.12   107KB GNU relayed thru Object Central
  

The version djtar supplied with djgpp does however work, though less problematically the -version and --help switches don't work here.

 

Glad to be part of the process of software evolution.
