gtar not using exclude-from option |

Hello,
I have looked all over and have not been able to solve my
problem with gtar. I am running solaris 8 on an ultra-5. I have
successfully compiled and installed tar-1.13. I can create
archives with no problem. When I try to use the
--exclude-from=filename option, the files listed in filename are
not excluded. Here are some examples of what I have place in
filename:
/path/to/file/file
*file
./file
I am in the directory with the files I want to exclude, but gtar
does not seem to what to exclude the files listed. Is this a bug
in tar, or is there an issue with solaris8 and tar?
Appreciate any help you can give.
