Just FYI, this is not true any longer.  Starting with ClearCase 3.x the
GNU make preprocessor is not used at all which you specify GNU
compatibility mode ("clearmake -C gnu").  This is because the
functionality for GNU make (such as functions, etc.) is contained in
clearmake proper and the preprocessor is not necessary.  Unfortunately
clearmake, even today in the latest ClearCase 4.2 releases, only
supports GNU make functionality circa version 3.75 or so.


Note you can still use the preprocessor version with "clearmake -C pgnu"
instead, but that's not usually a useful thing to do.
