Hi!

The info page of tar directs me to this email address to post
suggestions for tar. Here is one.

Think of this (basically):

        - I've got some really large (and busy) partition
          mounted on /home/data
        - I take a snapshot of this (via LVM) and mount it to
          /home/snapshot
        - I accidentally do a
                tar cf /dev/st0 /home/snapshot

Now, some time later, one subdirectory of /home/data, is trashed
and I want to recover it. My problem: the tape archive contains
everything with a trailing "home/snapshot/". I really would like
to see a switch like "only extract subdirectory X/Y/Z/ and strip
the path component X/Y/Z/ off." This would allow me to directly
restore the lost directory (and not having the need to move it
after restoration to a temporary place).

MfG, JBG
