paste documentation insufficient

Excuse me but the documentation to the paste command is so tiny that
it doesn't even give one the confidence to experiment.  Couldn't at
least an example be given?  Indeed the man page gives more options
than the info page though telling folks to see the info page.  Anyway,
you've got to admit that this just isn't enough:

   "`paste' writes to standard output lines consisting of sequentially
corresponding lines of each given file, separated by a TAB character.
Standard input is used for a file name of `-' or if no input files are
given."  paste (GNU textutils) 2.0

OK, why don't I help write the documentation?  Erm, there isn't even
enough foothold to get one started learning the command, lest become a
writer.
