Subject: Bug#114667: gettext: make distcheck fails in intl/

Package: gettext
Version: 0.10.40-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I fear this bug is a user problem, but I've tried and tried and haven't
seen anything bad in our auto* support.

When doing make distcheck for AMCL, I get the following error in intl/:
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/jordi/cvs/amcl/gnome-mud-0.7.5/=build'
Making all in intl
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/jordi/cvs/amcl/gnome-mud-0.7.5/=build/intl'
make[2]: *** No rule to make target address@hidden@a', needed by `all-yes'.
Stop.
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/jordi/cvs/amcl/gnome-mud-0.7.5/=build/intl'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/jordi/cvs/amcl/gnome-mud-0.7.5/=build'
make: *** [distcheck] Error 2

After this, I'm left with a bogus directory "gnome-mud-0.7.5 full of
files I can't delete:
23374:address@hidden:~/cvs/amcl$ rm -rf gnome-mud-0.7.5*
rm: cannot unlink `gnome-mud-0.7.5/intl/ChangeLog': Permission denied
[ and more ]
because the files/dirs don't have write perms for user.

The distribution is using 0.10.35. Upgrading to 0.10.40 didn't help. It
got even worse, even.
After running gettextize -c -f and copying all the m4 files it asks you
to copy to your macro dir, make distcheck dies with:
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/jordi/cvs/amcl/gnome-mud-0.7.5/=build'
Making all in intl
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/jordi/cvs/amcl/gnome-mud-0.7.5/=build/intl'
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `../config.h', needed by `intl-compat.o'.
Stop.
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/jordi/cvs/amcl/gnome-mud-0.7.5/=build/intl'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/jordi/cvs/amcl/gnome-mud-0.7.5/=build'
make: *** [distcheck] Error 2

Apparently this one is related to gettext 0.10.40 wanting config.h in
the src rootdir, when I have it in src/. Linking it helps, but then it
bombs about permissions of many files in that tree (as they can't be
overwritten).

I'd be glad to provide more info about this.

All the tools are the latest versions (using Debian sid).

Thanks,
Jordi
