The diff info page should add mentioning:
On many terminals one might have difficulty visually distinguishing
from lines starting with "<" vs. ">".  This is even more difficult when
the accompanying text is separated from the ">" or "<" by several tabs
or spaces, e.g.
<             Consider a whole screenful of this.
<             The arrows on the left just become
<             a long zigzag strip along the side,
<             at least on my terminal.
Therefore a simple workaround might be preferred, e.g. using O and N
[for old file, new file] or 1 and 2 [for file 1 and file 2].  This can
be achieved by [....]

True, at the bottom of present File: diff.info,  Node: Line Formats
is probably the way to do it, but looks tricky.  I'm hoping one could
do something as easy as diff -1O -2N oldfile newfile, etc.  Diff -u
seems to help, but goes beyond this minimal change...
