The rpath problem Nelson Beebe is noted is fixed if you upgrade to the
m4/gettext.m4 macro contained in
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/gettext/gettext-0.11-pre3.tar.gz.
I recommend to use "gettextize" for doing this.
