It's fairly recent:

   Revision 1.118, Wed Feb 27 19:00:56 2002 UTC
   Changes since 1.117: +7 -8399 lines

   Check in complete rewrite.

Yup, that's 7 lines added, 8399 lines deleted.  (The meat is now in
new source files.)

It'll take me a while to read this (much less inwardly digest it), but
it's good to see signs of progress.  The old code was pretty hard to
maintain.  On the other hand, I am worried that the GNU regexp
implementations will diverge completely.
